Trained in comprehensive assessment for formal diagnosis
I am trained to provide evidence based care that targets specific, actionable goals with patients in long-term psychotherapy. I approach direct care of patient needs in the following ways:
Clinical Assessment + Treatment Planning: Care starts with assessment of patient needs using standardized, validated scales that measure symptoms frequency and duration; this assessment is then used to create a treatment plan that the provider and patient review together.
Integrative/3rd Wave Orientation Psychotherapy: My original training is in motivational enhancement therapy (MET), a patient-oriented approach that focuses on developing goals and pathways in the context of patients’ lives. While MET forms the backbone of my practice, I incorporate in treatments from other therapeutic orientations that best meet the needs at the nexus of the treatment plan, the patient, and the concerns of the specific session. Primarily, this work includes cognitive-behavioral therapies (CBT), particularly dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT), but I also use approaches from psychodynamic and humanist approaches.
Reassessment of Patient Needs + Discharge: Frequent assessment using standardized, validated measures and discussion of goals with patients ensures that the correct therapeutic treatment is being administered to patients in each session; this approach also allows for course correction as needed. The final stage of therapy is discharge: a transition out of treatment when all goals of the treatment plan are met.
Clinical Experience/Specialty in Clinic Development: My clinical training has led to several specializations, detailed below. My early work was in crisis care for disordered eating and then domestic violence, human trafficking, and advocacy for crime survivors. I then specialized in long-term psychotherapy, particularly for adults who have experienced significant stress (e.g., trauma, previous homelessness, unstable home situations or relationships) or symptoms (e.g., trauma symptoms, post-partum OCD, anxiety, depression).
Development of psychotherapy clinics with virtual extensions
I have assisted in the development of several clinics and cross disciplinary collaborative programs, particularly psychotherapy clinics integrated into primary care and medical care facilities. In addition to this capacity, I have worked at multiple clinics installed in larger facilities, including outpatient clinics in NYC hospitals and college counseling centers in universities.
Specialty in telehealth / digital therapeutics
I have provided care via telehealth for over 10 years, beginning in 2012 within crisis care for the national eating disorder helplines. Since then, I have worked within multiple telehealth positions in the NYC and greater NYS areas, including developing a virtual clinic for adults experiencing homelessness for the RIT Behavioral Health Program. I have completed numerous therapy and assessment sessions via telehealth and have developed an expertise in this modality.
Training in forensic work
I have worked with people who are involved with the criminal justice system in multiple capacities for almost a decade - as an advocate, as a therapist, and as a forensic evaluator completing assessments for competency to stand trial evaluations and diversionary court evaluations (e.g., mental health court, drug court).
Training in Crisis Care
I worked in crisis care in the NYC area for approximately 5 years - on telehealth lines first for the national eating disorder hotline and then for Safe Horizon and RAINN hotlines.
